Monday has a notoriously bad rap, even for folks who don't clock in or out for anyone but themselves. Chasing a dream seems glamorous, until you fail. On your face. Repeatedly. During these seasons, getting out of bed, making phone calls and just sending a flipping email feels agonizing. It’s like being caught in an endless loop of Ground Hog's Day, which happens to fall on a mysteriously bleary and particularly sucky Monday.

Those are the breaks and what we call symptoms of failure. We allll experience it in some form. Whether you failed to finish a report for work, you blew an important presentation, failure happens. It happens to entrepreneurs, it happens to parents, it happens to all of us at some point. But that doesn't have to define you. Failure can be a launch point-- a gift, even, depending on how you look at it.

Take Action: 3 Mind Hacks to Convince Yourself to Do Anything (And Accomplish Your Goals)

Running low on motivation? Keep reading for 3 Mindset Hacks that are sure to set the wheels of change in motion on your motor scooter.

Identify the first small step and take it. By paring down, let’s say, a long-term goal, complex idea or huge project/assignment. Psych yourself out by saying ‘Well, today all I have to do is this ___ (insert small step). It’s far better than just sitting on your hands pining about the perceived enormity of the task and wasting a bunch of time not doing anything at all. Even if you just tackle a single task everyday, in just one week, you’ll be seven steps ahead of where you were in the beginning.

Give yourself a pep talk. By now we’ve allll heard that affirmations are the rave. And while I have nothing against them, that’s not what we’re talking about here. Affirmations using the words ‘I’ and ‘me’ are great when you need to cheer yourself up, because they speak directly to the ‘self’.

But when it comes to taking action, seeing and referring to yourself in 3rd person is where it’s at. Why? Because it creates a sense of distance between you (self) and Your Name (that cool chick who has her sh*t together). This distance enables you to get some perspective without being too rough on yourself, so that you can come up with solutions and take more action. A quick question I like to ask myself when in need of motivation to get something done is, ‘What would Talia do?’ You know, the future me who is large and in charge, in the position that I want to be in. Yeah, her. And then I follow in her stilettos and I execute. Works every time.

Finally, prioritize your options. Sometimes we let our indecision hold us back from setting our plans in motion. When you have multiple good options, prioritize them. Think about your ideal outcomes and what would you like to see happen. Set your first order of business to-do preference and then settle on your lateral back-up move. Chances are there are multiple decisions you can make, and other choices that will lead you to the same outcome that will be just as satisfying. I call this motivation method the ‘If not this, then that’ plan of action. The point is to get yourself to just do something. Make a move. Just start!

Think of it like this, when you have multiple ways to get to the same goal or outcome, your mind can rest easy that you’ve plotted out a course that’s going to get you what you want, no matter what. And that's just like the universe... it's always working to get you what you want, even as you resist. The possibilities are literally as endless as the galaxy.

How to Get Out of Your Routine & Give Yourself More Self-Care This Summer

Stagnant energy is the bane of creativity. And self-care is the love your spirit needs to replenish and fortify itself so that you can stay balanced as you journey towards cultivating a life that you love.

Your self-care practices need not be extravagant, they just need to be meaningful and uplifting to you. You can easily give your vibes a boost to help you power through your week by breaking out of your routine, and without doing anything too drastic. Yes, routines are in place for a reason. They help us to stay on task with what we need to get accomplished day to day. But, sometimes it’s the monotony that really sucks the life out of our day, and that’s how we know it’s time to shake things up.

This week we’ll take things nice and easy with some simple suggestions on how you can do a couple of nice things for yourself, without even leaving the house if you don’t want to.

Try these weekly easy ideas on how to mix things up and do a few nice and pleasurable things for yourself from our July Self-Care Calendar. ✨

All month we’ll be *revisiting and working through these tiny upgrades to make sure you stay stress free all Summer ‘18.

 

Week 2

Set an attainable goal for the day/week

Listen to some new, chill music

Apply a homemade face mask

Dress to the 9s, just because 

Take a New Moon detox bath

Get a mani or paint your toes 

Unplug for 1 hour

Week 1

Put together some summertime work or travel outfits*

Give yourself a pep talk* (we're learning some NLP this week, so stay tuned!)

Buy a new adult toy

Sing/rap in the shower

Phone a friend

Thoroughly hydrate yourself*

Sleep in

Self-Care All Summer '18: July Calendar

Summertime is the perfect time to get back to loving on teamYOU! The days are longer and the nights are warmer, and life is more chill. Now is the time to break out of your routine and try some new things.

To prepare for all the lushness that awaits you in the coming month here are a few things to keep in mind...

Be flexible. Look at what interests you and know that you can move things around at will.

Find a partner. There’s strength in numbers, boo! Find you an accountability partner and agree to check in on each other every few days or so.

Schedule your self-care time. Based on the activities you know you’re excited about doing, schedule them into your day to make sure that you have the space and time for them.

Go easy on yourself. You’re going to feel amazing once you get into a groove of treating yourself daily. However, don’t beat yourself up if you have to skip days or decide you want or need to double up here and there.

Keep notes about your faves. As you move through the month, take ownership of the suggested tasks, make adjustments as you see fit and do more of what you love. As you develop the habit of doing nice things for yourself, and taking better care of yourself, the more awesome you will to feel.

5 Ways to Stay Productive AF This Summer

Trying your best to conquer your day, but having trouble because you're constantly on the go and distractions seem to be lurking around every corner now that the weather is warmer? Keep reading, girl. 'Cause that (F)empire ain't gonna build itself. Get my tried and true tips for staying on point even during the most wonderful time of the year! 

Get outside early before it gets too hot.

I’m not consistently a morning person, but summer mornings are the best. Depending on where you live, it’s typically still pretty cool around sunrise, and getting up and out and moving at such an early hour can completely help you feel uber accomplished because you’ve done more before noon than most people will do in their entire day. Plus, you’ve got the added benefit of not getting the same draining beat down of the summer sun all over your neck while you’re out trying to accomplish stuff.

Give yourself some boundaries.

It’s easy to blow of your responsibilities in the summer because the kid in you wants to run off and play. And I definitely encourage you to get out and enjoy… but within reason. Decide ahead of time if you’re going to let yourself day drink at lunch that you’ll only have one cocktail instead of three. Or, allow yourself to go to that pool party over the weekend when you’re supposed to be working on your passion project, but only if you promise to work an extra couple of hours in the evening to make up for it.

Reward yourself for prioritizing and completing tasks.

I love a good reward for being good to myself and on my best adulting behavior. I have a cart full of cool sh*t I’m ready to click purchase on this week because I finally sat down to complete a major task that had been lingering for a couple of weeks. I looked at what needed to be done and invested in ahead of time and completed those necessities first. Then, as I began chipping away at it I ran into a few minor hiccups. But, because I paced myself, was patient with the process, and knew I had something I really wanted waiting for me on the other end, I worked through everything that came up with ease. I felt the double satisfaction in knowing that I got both what I needed to get done for myself-- plus, I was able to reward myself with something that I wanted.

Complete mindless, but necessary tasks at the pool, beach or wherever you find yourself with time and opportunity

I typically carry around work stuff (sometimes just my ideas notebook) to non-traditional work spaces because something brilliant might come up. But, more often than not, I end up looking at quotes or memes and storing them for an uninspired, rainy social media day. Ordinarily, I’d consider this a time suck. But let’s admit it. If you’re in business or a creative mind, then social media is just a part of life now, and a necessary part of marketing ourselves.

Other mindless tasks you could do include paying bills online, digitally purging old photos and apps you no longer need on your phone or iPad, or pulling recipe ideas off of Pinterest that you want to try for the week. You know your life and what it needs. Sometimes, it’s the small and seemingly inconsequential things that help us streamline our life for better efficiency. You’re smart and nimble with your time and focus so, I’m sure you have far better things to do besides play Candycrush. You’ll think of some good stuff to fill the gaps.

Use technology to your advantage while on-the-go.

I’ll admit, since I got my Kindle Paperwhite, I’ve been spending a bunch of time reading in the Uber, in waiting rooms, in line at the store, and basically wherever else I can squeeze it in. Every week I feel smarter and wiser.

We all basically walk around with a computer in our pocket, so we mine as well use it to maximize our potential. Grab your smartphone to jot down important notes for later. The best ideas often happen spontaneously. I always carry my wireless keyboard with me so I can type stuff out fast and efficiently if inspiration happens upon me during my downtime at a lunch cafe or my fave juice bar. My other fave tool is the dictation feature that I use with google docs. Sometimes it’s just easier to talk things out, ya know.

Summer is the most fun season of all, in my opinion. And it’s important to me that I get out and enjoy it as much as I can-- but, not at the expense of my goals for world domination. ‘Cause once that happens, I can hop on my jet and make summer happen whenever I want. Until then, cash me outside, enjoying the journey whilst staying on task and productive af.
